About us
Westbury ASC was formed in 1897, making it one of
the oldest swimming clubs in the UK.
The club is based in Church Street, Westbury and is
housed in delightful facilities that reflect its history. Not the typical
concrete and plastic eyesore evident in so many towns, Westbury ASC is located
in a beautiful redbrick traditional building and we swim in a compact pool
measuring a rather quaint 22.5 yards (20 metres) in length.

We hear that in all probability some new life will shortly be
infused into the future administration of the swimming baths. At a recent
meeting of the old committee of management, a sub-committee of energetic young
men was formed and although the former, as heretobefore, will be the responsible
body, the latter have the future management in their hands. This will no
doubt prove beneficial in more ways than one, as steps are being taken to
provide a more attractive programme of arrangements which it is hoped will be
the means of increasing the revenue. A swimming club is in course of
formation and various other attractions as well, full particulars of which can
be obtained of the manager.

A capital evening was spent at the swimming baths on
Wednesday when a swimming entertainment was given, under N.S.A. rules, by the
members of the club, who under their efficient instructor Mr. Blezard (Professor
E. Blezard) show wonderful progress in the art of swimming. The programme
was a varied one and while it was chiefly composed of tests of skill, there were
a few items prolific of fun, including the umbrella race and the polo match,
which, being a novelty to Westbury was far and away the most interesting item .
. . it should be mentioned that Mr. F.W. Laverton has presented the club with a
handsome silver cup to be competed for monthly.
