Squads and Training

The club structure is divided into three:
The Learn to Swim sessions, the Junior Squad and the Senior Squad.  The Junior and Senior Squads train under the Head Coach, Stephen Pyne with the help of a dedicated band of teaching staff, poolside helpers and committee all of whom have given up their time to gain qualifications in the teaching and coaching of the sport.

Swimmers are usually assigned to a particular squad according to their ability, stamina and age.  The number of sessions, their duration and frequency depend on the squad in which the swimmer is placed.

Training Times:
Junior Squad
Tuesday    7.00-8.00p.m.
Friday        7.00-8.00 p.m.
Sunday     5.00-6.30 p.m.
Senior Squad
Tuesday    8.00-9.00 p.m.
Thursday    8.00-9.00 p.m.
Sunday      5.00-6.30 p.m.

Competitions and Galas:

Once swimmers have moved up from the width (learners and improvers) sessions and into the squad sessions, we encourage them to enter the club championships, galas, swim in the Moonraker League (the local Wiltshire league) and open meets.

The club enters teams into both the Wiltshire Winter and Summer leagues and once chosen for one of the teams, swimmers are expected to fulfil their commitment to the club and not let the club and their fellow team mates down at the last minute.  The club also enters swimmers into selected open meets during the year which we hope will encourage younger swimmers.  These open meets are usually listed in the events calendar and sometimes advertised on the notice board at the pool.  Also, scheduled during the year are the Wiltshire ASA county competitions. To be eligible to enter these competitions, a swimmer must gain the entry time appropriate to their age, details of these entry times are available here.

As stated above, everyone who helps with the club is a volunteer and do not receive any payment for their services.  In fact, we are always very grateful for anyone who would like to offer their services, so if you think you might like to teach little ones to swim, coach the older swimmers, be a lifeguard or just help out in a general way, please contact Steve Pyne on 01373 822900.
